Debbie Fields started baking cookies when she was thirteen years old. She loved to bake cookies, especially cookies that oozed with chocolate. The more she baked, the better they got. Soon she had a reputation among family and friends for making the best cookies they had ever eaten.
When Debbie became Mrs. Fields, her husband Randy agreed with everyone else that Debbie made the best cookies ever. Mrs. Fields special chocolate chip cookies became famous with Randy’s friends and business associates. Soon, Debbie Fields was being urged to open a store and sell her famous cookies. On August 13,1977 the first Mrs. Fields Cookies store opened in Palo Alto, California near Stanford University. At first people were skeptical. Not only were they skeptical, they were not buying cookies! But Debbie had faith in her cookies. She knew that if only people could taste the cookies, they would know how great they really were. Debbie took a tray of warm cookies outside her store to let people try a bite (we call this sampling) and this was the beginning of her success. After one bite of Mrs. Fields Cookie quality and goodness, people actually began following Debbie back to the store to buy cookies.
From the first store in 1977 Mrs. Fields Cookies has grown in to a national institution with a reputation for exquisite taste and superior quality. Mrs. Fields Cookies is located on the lower level next to Sears (across from mall customer service) within the Holyoke Mall in Holyoke, Massachusetts.
